About Uncle TommyTommy O'Brien, Uncle Tommy, has been organizing events & people since his collegiate years. His experiences range from planning a national educational conference and simultaneously juggling banquets, hospitality suite functions and room service in a 1300-room hotel. He boasts more than 29 years of hospitality and food & beverage service experience. He has also taught in grammar schools, high schools, and community colleges, and is a USSF soccer referee for grammar & high school levels in Santa Clara, California. Uncle Tommy is also a USSF soccer referee & Instructor, a Mentoring Program Coordinator for the Santa Clara Youth Soccer League, Santa Clara, CA. He has published a booklet( "It's Your Call!" )which explains a unique & successful form of referee Mentoring( for newly licensed and relatively new referees )called 'in the game' mentoring ( www.SoccerRefereeMentors.com ). Tommy also consults with soccer leagues looking to set up an effective referee mentoring program. Of course, he plans and handles corporate events from 200 to 5500 guests for Uncle Tommy's including Santa appearances. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Uncle Tommy loves to sketch & sort things out, but he really knows that the graphic arts talents lie within his son, Bob, a graphic artist who freelances and works for a major IT consulting firm in Chicago. A bonafide inventor, Tommy holds a US Patent and US Trademark on two personally designed products. Tommy also is the only person in California to receive Health Department design approval for a special outdoor ice cream cart.
While not a gourmet cook by any stretch of the imagination, Uncle Tommy really enjoys cooking a good meal with friends; the whole process of prep work-talking-cooking-talking-eating-talking is special. Playing golf, camping, going to the movies, refereeing or coaching soccer, and cooking are his most enjoyable activities next to running his business. Tommy
likes competition in everything that he does. “Being one of
eight kids,” he states, “you are no stranger to
competition. My mental makeup sees the challenges in life and in my
business as tasks to be dissected/sorted out/handled and put behind me.
I like helping others work through their challenges as well, so
volunteer work feels as natural to me as does eating ice
